“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Philippians 4:12 NIV
Most individuals despise their seasons of struggle. However, in the above scripture Paul suggests that in both seasons of need and seasons of having, he is content. I believe it is an asset to go through both seasons as it means: no matter what the circumstances, you have been proven to keep a hold of your faith during the testing. Being content helps one to overcome: greediness, self-centredness and stops comparison to others.
As a result of this contentment, Paul was enabled to acknowledge Christ as the source of everything- including provision of all his needs. It reminds me of my personal testimony, how I have been sick and now know good health, how I have been poor and now obtain wealth, how I was once unable to access education for my chosen career and by the supernatural provision of God, I now have accumulated degrees and training within my profession.

Likewise, I have experienced heartbreak and now know wholeness in Christ, I have experienced oppression and now I have encountered the freedom which is in Christ.
Considering the varying seasons I have endured, I am able to function at different levels regardless of what I face. It does not mean that I do not shed tears during times of need (I think it would be hypocritical to pretend to stay completely balanced in such harsh times) but I am enabled to face it with confidence, standing steadfast until God has intervened.
My question to you is, “have you learned to be content in any and every situation, whether you have or do not have?” If the answer is no, then ask God today to strengthen your contentment in the different phases you may face in life, so that your faithfulness is unquestionable before Him.
