Quiet Time Notes

“What shall I return to the Lord for all His goodness to me?” Psalm 116:12 (NIV)

I’ve been reading the book of Exodus and Leviticus and the revelations have deep. There was something seemingly small that popped out to me while reading the first few chapters in Leviticus and it was regarding the different forms of offering that the people had to bring before the Lord when they attended His house. The offerings were for different reasons such as sin, guilt and fellowship offerings. Now we have Christ who has fulfilled all these requirements there are some practices we are no longer obligated to do. However…. the term ‘offering’ is still very significant and applicable in our Christian walk today. I learned the following aspects from Exodus and the chapters in Leviticus 1-7:

  • Offerings’ come in different forms and ways. (Leviticus Chapters 1-7).
  • Although Christ fulfilled all these lawful obligations, the premise is that an ‘offering’ of some kind (biblically speaking) must be given when attending the Lords house.
  • The ‘offering’ must be of the purest kind – this is a matter of heart posture when giving to God. (Exodus 25:2 NIV).
  • The ‘offering’ given must be the best! God continually told the people not to mix yeast with their offerings or present a defected animal as it is a sign of contamination and/or evil. (Leviticus 2:4).
  • The ‘offering’ should be sacrificial in the sense that it should cost something.
  • The ‘offering’ may be financial, your worship and praise, providing services in Gods house as to honour Him and more.

My question for you is “what is your offering unto God today?”
