Quiet Time Notes

12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him.” Leviticus 8:12

So, for a while I found myself immersed in my phone. I spent too much time on apps or just doing a lot of work using devices to the point that I started to realise that I was not reflecting my relationship with Christ.

Upon a quiet moment with the Holy spirit, the term ‘Consecrate’ dropped in my heart. I began to think, what can I do to separate myself from the world? I ended up being led to dedicate my Mondays to God as a day I spend time diving deep into the bible, cutting off social media, journaling and praying. It’s been one of the best things I have done in a while and it’s also given me time to really comprehend the word ‘Consecration’. It’s not a seasonal thing, it’s part of a life yielded to Christ.

I studied this term and I love how it’s evidential in both old and New Testament. One example is Aaron anointed for priesthood and Jesus when the Holy Spirit descended upon him after his baptism.

Let’s break this term down together. Online definitions state that Consecration is “the action or declaration of making something sacred”. The biblical concordance states that the word “is used in some form or another to represent being set apart for the work of God…To be Holy”.

Some of the associated terms are: clean, sanctify, hallow, dedicate, holy, purified and appointed.

So, what does consecration look like in this generation?

  • Someone who does not fit within the crowd
  • Someone whose values are held in high regard
  • Someone who values a relationship with God as a priority
  • Someone who allows the Word of God to be a mirror
  • Someone who is repentant and lives a life of repentance
  • Someone who has a heart of a servant
  • Someone who perceives the call (and the office) as sacred
  • Someone who has clean hands and a pure heart
  • Someone whose life is centred around the gospel of Christ
  • Someone who does not compromise
  • Someone of pure motives and intentions
  • Someone filled with the Holy Spirit (one who is anointed)
  • Someone living a fasted life (not just occasional fasting but constantly dying to self)

Side-note, it is not necessarily that the above is a scale to judge a person as God looks only at the heart, it was some aspects God was teaching me on so that in this season I reflect Christ more than before. I cannot do what the world does and expect to be set apart.

Normally, I would add scriptures for every point, but I want you today to prioritise spending time with God learning about this as it’s transformed a part of my life in a way I hadn’t previously experienced. In that 1-1 with God, consider what passages you link to each point and pray that God will lead you to live fully consecrated.
