“In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.” — 2 Timothy 2:20–21 (NIV)
God has been taking me through a season where He’s been making me really aware of who I am in Him. It’s been one of those quiet but constant reminders, at work, when I’m out, just in everyday moments, that I don’t need to look like everyone else around me.
And honestly, that’s not always easy. The world we live in makes it feel normal to blend in. We’re surrounded by gossip, swearing, lying, and coarse jokes, and sometimes it can feel like you’re constantly trying to figure out how to respond. Do you correct people in love? Do you stay quiet? Or do you simply live in a way that reflects Christ and let your life speak for itself?

Lately, I’ve just felt it so strongly, I’m in the world, but I’m not of it (John 17:16). There’s something about that truth that keeps reminding me that I’m heaven-bound. And if you’re reading this, I want you to hold onto that too: you don’t need to shrink your uniqueness to fit in.
That’s why this scripture hits so deeply. It reminds us that not everything is made for the same purpose. Some things are common, and some are set apart. And if we’re honest, that means we can’t live exactly like everyone else and still expect to walk in what God has called us to.
There are other scriptures that echo this as well. One that really anchors my youth group is: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” — 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV).
When you really take that in, it changes how you see yourself. It means you are set apart. You are covered by God. You belong to Him. And more than that, you’ve been chosen on purpose, for a purpose, to carry His truth into the world.
So my prayer for you today is simple. I pray that you would acknowledge, accept, and truly embrace your uniqueness as a child of God in Christ Jesus. That you would walk confidently, knowing you don’t look like everyone else because you’re not meant to.
You are set apart. And the glory of God on your life will continue to distinguish you in ways nothing else can.
So don’t shy away from it, be proud of the uniqueness God has given you.
